Analysis Of Rock Video 2
Cinematography: There are a variety of different camera angles and shots within this music video. In the opening of he music video there is a close up of different peoples faces who are fans of the band 30 Seconds To Mars. They are all talking about fate and relating what they are saying to the music video, by using close ups of fans and not just the band it promotes the band as based on the fans rather than all about money, it shows they care about thier fans. There are also long shots of the audiences at thier gigs and shows, by showing more of the audience again, it promotes them as being interested in thier fans the most, and they are key to this music video.
Sound:
At the beginning of the music video there are clips of the fans saying little speech's, and they look slightly sad, by having the fans talking on the video it shows how close the band are with thier fans. It is also effective because it makes you listen to what they are saying and you try and relate it to the song. Secondly they use the same shot of the fans faces during the breakdown of the song where he says 'no, no' and the same fans shout it as the words appear over thier face, this promotes the bands song, showing that lots of other people know it. Also by showing shots of the crowd enjoying his music and knowing all of the words it shows them as a successful well known band.
Mise En scene:
The Mise En Scene in this is key to showing what genre of music is trying to be represented, Jared Leto the main singer of the band has bright pink hair which shows him as very alternative and different to pop, it gives the video a rock edge to it because its a bit different and daring, not very mainstream like pop is. The lighting used is all strobe lights and lareg flashing lights to give it an overwhelming feel and makes the music seem that much bigger and better.
Editing:
The editing in this music video looks very high tech and modern, lots of jump shots are used, it jumps from each different city where theyve done shows and shows the audience enjoying thier music, by jump shotting from place to place it shows how popular they are around the world, which also ppromotes them as a rock band. Secondly they use fastforward/doubletime to sshow the people walking past the streets and all the people that are there to see 30 seconds to mars shows. This is good for promoting the band by showing that they do lots of gigs and lots of peopole turn up for those gigs.
