Conventions Of A Music Video.

To make a successful music video you need to include all of the key music video conventions. All popular Music Videos and succesful music videos are filled with the key music video conventions.

Some of these music video conventions are:

• Camera Movement: The camera movement needs to reflect the song and the meaning behind the song. Also the camera movement has to show the lip syncing in time so is a vital part of a music video. For example in this video it is a sad song and the camera movement reflects the mood of the song and the genre of the song. For example there is a slow motion tilt of the artists body and this shows that things are moving slowly for her and hr facial expression and clothing that we get the full view of represents the mood and genre of the music video. 

• Camera Shots: The camera shots in a music video show the emotions on each of the characters faces, and it helps it to relate to the music video and the meaning behind the video. It also helps to show where the music video is set, for instance a long shot shows the whole scenery of the place where its set. For example close ups of artists of actors faces show how they are feeling within the music video and it reflects on what the genre of the music video is. The close up of this artists face with the completely dark background shows the genre of the music video as rock music video as it is a common convention.

• Mise En Scene: The Mise En Scene is key because it shows what the characters are wearing and the key scenery and props, it then represents the theme of the music video and it becomes clear what is happening in the music video and how it relates to the song. For example in this Slipknot music video, the artists are all wearing their masks and dark clothing which signatures something scary; which is one of the conventions of heavy metal is extreme clothing and hair and darker clothing. 

• A Storyline: The story to a song has to be represented in the music video. For instance in a lot of pop videos the music video is about love and relationship problems and a lot of them show a story line to reflect the lyrics. For example in the music video by Ciara and Enrique Iglesias the two musicians are acting out an argument in reflection to the lyrics.
